They were rescued from the “shelter of horror” in Târgu Jiu, where they lived in cold, filth, and fear. Umbra was so terrified that she couldn’t take care of her puppies, but now, with our help, she is starting to regain her motherly instincts and look after them.

She came to us from the hellish public shelter in Târgu Jiu – scared, exhausted, but with incredible strength: she had just given birth to her 8 newborn puppies. We rescued her and her babies, offering them a safe place to grow, be cared for, and prepared for a better life.

Ursu

This is what a dog who has spent 12 years in a shelter looks like. Yeah, you read that right—12 years. And yes, you can see it just as clearly: he looks like a normal dog.

Bubu

Bubu has the looks of a purebred, but you shouldn’t believe everything you think you see. Not only does Bubu resemble a pedigree dog while actually being the most genuine and authentic stray, but he’s also something more.

Foxy

Foxy is one of the most beautiful and unique dogs I have ever seen. We have seen thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dogs in our lifetime, but not a single one is like Foxy.

Zizi

She is Zizi, a tall dog like a giraffe, with golden fur like a cornfield and slightly wiry. A truly unique appearance!

Patrocle

Patrocle is a loving and soulful little dog. In fact, saying that Patrocle is full of soul would be a huge understatement because the truth is, we don’t really understand how such a big soul can fit into such a small dog’s body.

Ely

Ely is a stunning 8-year-old male dog with a rich coat and an enviable shade of gray – a color many would pay a fortune for at a salon! Despite his natural elegance, Ely is still searching for his luck.

Haiduc

Haiduc is a young dog with a special look: black and white, like a chess board! Full of energy and love, Haiduc is dreaming of a family to spoil him. In the meantime, you can support him through long-distance adoption by helping him receive care, food and lots of attention.

Beguța

Although Beguța has arrived in our shelter, her dream is to live in a warm home with people who love her. Until then, she will find peace here, but we need your help to ensure the best conditions for her.

Sana

Sana is approaching the middle of her life and it would be unbelievable if in the second part of her life she would be offered a completely different life: from the loneliness and coldness of a shelter to the warmth and safety of a family.

Muțica

Muțica is a well-raised and quiet dog, curious and very willing to not just interact but be understood by a person. She is always willing to find out what is happening in her surroundings, and this makes her a wonderful candidate for the eventual dog-training.

Beatrice

Beatrice is 12 years old, but she is still a child at heart. It is said that any dog that didn’t have a chance to love a family remains a puppy forever. Beatrice has stayed for 10 years on the streets and in shelters, always alone. Beatrice has been looking for a family to pour all the unending love she has to offer.

Pandele

Pandele is extremely sociable and always happy. For 6 years now, that is, for over 2000 days, he has been waiting for you every day, hour by hour, to come to visit us, to fall in love with him and to take him home.

Corbuța

The shepherd is a well-behaved dog and will sit in any position and do any operation as long as you promise to give her a gentle petting while you take care of her. She is super ready for adoption and would be a great dog for any home and family.

Cocuța

Cocuta feels she needs people, but is also afraid of them. She’s very gentle and friendly with acquaintances, but fearful of strangers. Her eyes and her whole body say to any passer-by, “Come here and give me that love!”, but when the person approaches, Cocuta crawls into the henhouse and looks at him like this. Without a sound, she just stares at him and thinks what if. What if there was more courage in the world. For her, more courage to approach people. For people, more courage to come closer to her for good and give her, in their family, that trust and warmth that Cocuta needs so much.

Bijou

Hello, my friend. I’m Bijou.

If you’re looking at me, I look like a classy, classy 2016 model (meaning I’m nine years old).

If you have the patience to let me tell you more about myself, you should know that I also have the temperament of a classic maidanez: I’m intelligent, resilient, easily adaptable to any conditions, I love food and I look for it everywhere.

Mateo

I’m Mateo and I’m always playing coy, until I get to the point where I trust others, at which point I climb right into their heads. Sometimes literally.

Fox

Fox is the loudest dog in the shelter, although he is, to be honest, a bit of a non-dog. In the sense that 99% of the dogs we know love being around people and interacting with them. But Fox is special, he’s not in the 99%. Fox genuinely and unabashedly loathes people other than those who feed and care for him on a daily basis, and he signals this with intense and aggressive barking.

Iulica

Iulica is an 11 year old female who has been a cheerful puppy ever since we have known her. Always upbeat and energetic, always eager to play and share, she is a never-ending source of good humor, relaxation and fun. When she does manage to stop and hold on to some of that energy, she’s also very affectionate and clingy.

Maty

I’m Maty, I’m nine years old and I’ve been here since I opened my eyes.

I don’t trust people and could really use help.

Tinu

Tinu is a senior dog, over 14 years old, a kind and peaceful old dog, who has been living in the Speranța Shelter for many years. We haven’t given up hope that we will find him a family, but until then, his life needs warmth, comfort and love – things that YOU can give him through a long-distance adoption.

I’m Missy and I have a funny face.

Every time I see a camera, I squint at it. Like this!

And I’m always happy with whatever I’m offered. No matter how little love, one look, and you’ve won me forever.

Maia

She’s 9 years old, but her energy could fool anyone. Maia is sociable, affectionate, and always ready to shower you with kisses in exchange for a gentle touch.

Eva

Eva is 8 years old. She is very well-behaved and loving. Eva is the mommy heroine who ended up with 8 puppies in the shelter, having rescued each one when someone in a backyard dumped them all in a field, far from where they had been born.

Dyani

Technically, this is Dyani and he’s a small wolf. A wolf in appearance only, of course, because behaviorally he’s the most gentle and domestic dog we’ve ever seen.

Colț

Colt’s as pretty as a picture. And like a painting he has sat and waited, almost motionless, day after day, for almost 13 years, for someone to save him.

Albano

Albano is a special little puppy, one of those puppies that look straight into your heart. Saved from the middle of the road by a family of Italians who had come to Romania, he and his sisters, Romina and Sofia, arrived at the shelter with the hope that they would be given a chance at a better life.

Maronică

Pictured is Maronică. He grew up tormented, chained and isolated from the people he would have needed affection and socialization from. Now he’s very afraid of people, but he’s a warm and harmless little wimp, never bites.

Mișu

Mișu broke our hearts. We don’t know what happened to him in the public shelter in Târgu Jiu, but he is now in a deep depression.
He sits like this for hours, in the farthest corner of the paddock, with his head against a wall, like an ostrich.

Emil

Emil comes from the shelter in Târgu Jiu and has definitely been beaten. He’s very scared, and when our employees are nearby, he freaks out. He’ll get into a corner and shake like jelly until it passes.
Emil will have his work cut out for him in the Messengers of Hope program and he needs your support.

Eros

Eros, who came to us from the public shelter in Târgu Jiu, can’t believe he’s being petted. That people speak to him kindly and gently, that they care about him.

He’s a tall, handsome dog, almost addicted to affection. After all, he seems to have missed so much.

Mioara

This little beauty used to roam the streets of a village near Bucharest. Although she wasn’t bothering anyone, someone decided she was a problem — probably just because she was too big. People started chasing her away, throwing stones, and threatening her every day. There was no going back.

Luca

His name is Luca, but he doesn’t live on the second floor. Luca doesn’t even know that there are beings that live on top of each other, in blocks of flats. What’s more, he doesn’t even know that beings are supposed to have a home of their own. We bet he’s always wondering where the Hope employees go when they leave, but he can’t fathom that they have a family other than him.

Țuța

That’s how Țuța is when she wants to break someone’s heart. Unfortunately, she has quite a few visitors at the shelter lately, so from her perspective, few hearts to break.

Delia

Delia is an elderly, gentle, and calm little dog. She doesn’t ask much from life anymore – just peace, care, and a bit of love.

Boris

I’m Boris, they call me Boris the Robot. I have received many gifts over the years at Hope. Almost all of them have been thanks to your generosity, people who I know follow the page, because I know there are no such things as an estate. I remember, for example, some “Forrest Gump” exterior rods that helped me, at the time, regain my normal, proud gait.

Venus

We wish you a day like Venus’s day today. Venus had a good day. She ran, she sunbathed, she played in the water, she frolicked with dog friends and human friends, and the tongue sticking out of an elbow in the photo shows you, we think, that she experienced it all to the fullest.

Rita

Is it Dalmatian? Is it a Carpathian shepherd? Maybe a collie? Nah. It’s Rita.
And she is, of course, a textbook maid: unique, beautiful, special, amazingly intelligent and expressive.

Șumi

You know him, right? Şumi is the paralyzed puppy that came to us. We do not know how long or whether he will survive, because

Gina

Gina isn’t just any dog. She’s stunning — with the look of a she-wolf and a coat in shades of metallic gray that would make any designer jealous.

Leona

Leona, a slightly larger clump, like a ball of love and devotion.

Greta Zam

Hot hot, My Dear! Greta often thinks about that. No, not that Greta, but our Greta in the shelter, and not the global heat, but this more vulgar, everyday heat.

Gerilă/Frami

Frami was brought from ASPA Bragadiru, where we wouldn’t say he was treated very well. He is very skittish, withdrawn and eager to be on his own.

Florica

Fetița is a 11 year old spayed female perfect for any family, no matter what type of home you’d like to share with her.

Cluj

He is Cluj , he is 9 years old, and was brought by the Hope emergency team from Cluj.

Bobby

Bobby is 8 years old and is the kind of dog that used to hang out in front of the stairs with the gossipy and voluble tenants of the block.

Aka

I’m Aka and life hasn’t been kind to me and neither have the people in it. I’m 12 and I’ve never loved anyone. I’m withdrawn and scared, and I carry the trauma of 10 lifetimes, not one. I don’t need to go into them right now, especially since, I don’t know if you know, traumatized souls have great trouble being communicative and direct. How could they not, when so many people have hurt them?
