Some dogs wait years for a home. Old dogs, dogs with disabilities, dogs who’ve never learned to trust, they’re often the last to be chosen and the ones who need you most. You don’t have to bring a dog home to change its life. By sponsoring a dog at Speranța Shelter, you can give a rescued Romanian stray the food, medical care and warmth they need, for as little as £5 a month.
You’ll be matched with a real dog at our shelter and you will get monthly updates on how they’re doing, how you’re impacting their life, all while they stay safe with our team in Romania.
We currently care for more than 500 dogs at Speranța Shelter. Our dream is to find a loving home for every single one of them, but the reality is that some dogs will spend years, sometimes their whole lives, in our care. Senior dogs, dogs with disabilities, dogs who use wheelchairs, and dogs who carry the scars of trauma are so often overlooked, simply because they’re harder to place.
Sponsorship exists for exactly these dogs. Whether or not your sponsored dog ever finds a forever family, your support means they never go without. Your sponsorship doesn’t just help one dog, it helps sustain the whole shelter, so we can keep our doors open to the next stray who needs us.

Confirm your sponsorship with your first payment. After that, it's automatic, nothing more for you to do.
Receive a welcome message confirming your sponsorship, then regular news and photos so you can follow your dog's journey.

Each sponsorship involves processing the necessary paperwork, managing the relationship with the sponsor, and providing regular updates about the chosen dog. This minimum three-month commitment allows us to offer every sponsor a more personal and rewarding experience, while ensuring consistent support for the animals in our care.
Of course! Many of our supporters sponsor two or three dogs. Simply repeat the sponsorship process for each dog.
If your dog finds their forever family — wonderful news! We’ll let you know, and invite you to switch your sponsorship to another dog who needs support, ideally one with a similar story or personality. If your dog sadly passes away, we’ll also get in touch to let you know gently, and to offer you the chance to sponsor another dog. You’re never obligated to continue, you can end your sponsorship at any time.
Yes, at any time. You can manage your donation by accessing the Donor Portal from the emails confirming your monthly payment. Or simply, just contact us and we’ll make the change, no hard feelings.
